Distribution and habitat
The common grasshopper must be the most frequent domestic locust.
It can be found from June to October on meadows, in moist habitats and also on dry grass, at roadsides and in moors. Lifestyle and special aspects
The grasshopper grows up to 13 - 23 mm in size and can differ in colour; the basic colouring fluctuates between green, brown, yellow and red. Even multi-coloured animals are possible. Chorthippus parallelus lives off plants and is one of the last locus species to survive in overfertilised rich meadows. |
