Distribution and habitat

Aedes communis is found almost all over Europe, in North America and Asia.
The breeding areas are woodland pools left by melting snow or by flood.

Lifestyle and special features

Aedes communis uses transient water sources, such as flooded areas, snowpools and ditches as breeding grounds.
Their life cycles require alternating periods of wet and dry.
If there is no flooded period the eggs are able to survive for several (!) years.
