Distribution and habitat

Widespread in Europe, but mostly in the extreme north: To be found from April frequently at the edge of woods, in hedgerows and on xerothermic bushy slopes

Lifestyle and special aspects

This cicada grows to 4-5 mm long and can have highly varied coloured front wings. There are dark granules with bristles on the veins of the wings. The proboscis, which is folded under the body when at rest, is used to suck from plant roots.
