distribution and habitat

These mosquitoes, originally from Japan, Korea and China, are robust and well adapted to live in a cooler climate.
Therefore, this introduced mosquito specis could rapidly spread in Europe within a few years.
With the exception of a few identification traits, the Asiatic bush-mosquito is very similar in appearance to the Asian Tiger Mosquito.

Mode of life and characteristic features

Hulecoeteomyia japonica is a possible vector of diseases like the West Nile fever. This mosquito is, however, not as effective as the by far more dangerous Asian Tiger Mosquito.

While our endemic mosquitoes species are active mainly in the evening and at night, the bush mosquitoes are also in search of a blood meal during the day.
